Born on April 16, 1963, in Koto Ward, Tokyo, Tetsujo Otani is the second son of Kyokuyu Otani, the chief priest of Juganji, a Jodo sect temple.
At Shiba Gakuen High School at 17, he apprenticed under the late Master Kouin Takada (1924~1998) at Yakushiji Temple, subsequently becoming a Buddhist priest there.
He holds a master's degree from the Faculty of Literature at Ryukoku University.
Since the spring of 1999, he has been traversing throughout Japan, advocating “the cultivation of the mind” through sermons.
In addition to his spiritual endeavors, Tetsujo Otani actively contributes to society as a sincere volunteer interview committee member at Nara Juvenile Detention Center and Osaka Correctional District.
An accomplished author, Tetsujo Otani has published several books, including "Yoppodo no En Desu ne (It must be quite a connection)," “Jinsei itsudatte jimon jitou (Life is always a self-examination)” “Shiawase no housoku (Rules of Happiness) along with the daily flip calendar series "Hibi no Kotoba," spanning volumes 1 to 7.
